Date of Birth: 7/16/1976Sandra began riding in 2004 in Columbus, Ohio. Like many cyclists, she came to the sport after an injury took her out of another one. A former swimmer, she was looking for a new activity where she could kick her own butt. After much encouragement a friend got her out on a road bike (she was not so sure about the whole clip-less pedals thing at first). It was love at first ride. In 2005, she visited some friends in Phoenix, and when she saw the endless bike lanes, vowed to move there. So, in 2006 Sandra moved across the country. Once in Phoenix, she joined her first road team and started racing. Sandra joined the SPECIALIZED D4W/Bicycle Haus Women’s Cycling team in 2008. She is looking forward to the 2010 season and the opportunity to learn from her very talented teammates.

Although she plans to stay at home until her son is in school, she has been volunteering with an organization that provides running programs to children in Title 1 schools. Prior to her son’s arrival, Mary earned her degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing at Gonzaga University and went on to work as a fundraiser for a homeless shelter. In the future, she plans to continue her education and return to the work she loved. But for now, she is just so darn excited to be racing again!

Carrie thought the next step in her athletic adventures would be triathlons. After completing several marathons and swimming with masters for a year, doesn’t that sound logical? She finished two short triathlons and realized she only liked the bike portion. Carrie started road racing in 2008, and was happy to finish races. During her 2008 season, she discovered another love: cyclocross. Cyclocross is the type of racing that combines suffering and fun like no other, and therefore, is Carrie’s passion. Carrie has lived in Phoenix for the past eight years working as a nurse practitioner in dermatology. She has recently moved to Tucson where she hopes to continue her career in dermatology. Carrie is a firm believer in sunscreen and hats, especially in Arizona! If you want to find Carrie at a race, just look for the girl slathered in sunscreen, wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
Judy Jenkins
Date of Birth: January 30, 1980
Residence: Tucson, AZ
Occupation: PhD Student, Analytical Chemistry
Category: Road – CAT 2
Notable Results: 1st State TTT Championships AZ 2009
After swimming competitively for 16 years, Judy’s shoulders decided that it was time she try another sport. Time trials are quite similar in mindset to swimming, so cycling seemed like a reasonable candidate. Upon entering grad school in the Fall of 2006, Judy’s Hawaiian-shirt clad advisor suggested she have an activity (yes, only 1) in her life other than school. Thus, cycling became her new sport/”hobby,” and her advisor’s face turns white when she tells him of descending Mt. Lemmon with the cars. Her first semi-competitive events came in the Perimeter races, but after winning the women’s category of the Tour de Pheonix in 2007, she decided to give the USCF races a try. She learned a lot with the team in 2009, and she’s having fun and glad to be a part of the 2010 Specialized Designs for Women/ Bicycle Haus Team. When she’s not riding, Judy’s research consumes her life. Currently, she is working on designing and generating more efficient solar cells, and she will gladly tell you more than you ever wanted to know about the topic should you ask. Hopefully she’ll graduate in May 2011, but we’ll see…

Jennifer Sica

Date of Birth: May 7, 1980

Profession: Software Programmer
Category: Road – CAT 3, Mountain – Pro, Cyclocross – CAT 1
Jen began racing during her sophomore year of college, she is a 2002 NAU graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems; she currently works as a software programmer who spends a good chunk of her time on the freeway commuting between Phoenix and Flagstaff. She is often accused of laughing too much when racing. Her most recent notable results include a 5th place at the 2008 BC Bike Race with teammate Heidi Clayton. She also finished as the 3rd American, 8th overall, in the 2007 La Ruta de los Conquistadores. Although she had to walk part of it, the coolest climb she’s ever done was the Ronde Van Vlaanderen of the Tour of Flanders and no; she did not take a cobblestone out of the road.
Kimberly Truitt
Date of Birth: February 5, 1987
Residence: Tucson, Arizona
Occupation: Student (University of AZ)
Category: Road – CAT 4
Kim has been competing in team and individual sports since her parents signed her up for summer swimming at age five. She began cycling less than two years ago when she became interested in sustainable living and more environmentally friendly forms of transportation. It did not take her long to try her hand a riding her bike for exercise, and then, for competitive purposes. Last year was her first year racing, and she is looking forward to learning and competing more this year with the Specialized team! When she is not on her bike, she is working on degrees in Art History and Women’s Studies, creating her own art, riding her bike around downtown, playing with her cat, and running the Women’s Studies Honorary on campus. She loves Tucson and feels very fortunate to be able to rider her bike year-round on its streets.
Maggie Williams – Team Director

Residence: Phoenix, AZ
Occupation: Chief HR Officer
Category: Road – CAT 1
Maggie started her athletic career as a runner and all around athlete at the early age of 14. As a runner, she excelled in the short-distance sprint events such as the 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter sprint and 400 meter run. As Maggie progressed her running career, she started working on running longer distances, in particular 10k races and marathons. After some serious running injuries, Maggie supplemented her running workouts with the bike. In 1989, she started mountain biking on a recreational level in 1989 until she got on a road bike in 1996 and never looked back. Maggie found that her strength on a road bike far exceeded her ability as a runner and on mountain bike. In fact, she became a time trial specialist and excels in this discipline. In 2001, Maggie started racing in Arizona and by 2004 was racing on the NRC for Trek/VW. Her greatest memory and she feels one of her best accomplishments was getting into a 2-women break (with Team Mobile) at the Tour of the Gila in 2005 and helping her team advance into the top 20.
Maggie is now focusing her energy and attention in teaching women more about race strategy and the art of teamwork. She truly enjoys being part of the team and nothing matters more than the team having fun, getting great results, and encouraging women into the sport! Most of all, she wants to teach trust, camaraderie, patience, and the strategy of the race! Maggie is notorious for her attacks in the peloton and really likes to make things happen in a race. When off the bike, Maggie is an executive with a global digital marketing and advertising agency. She holds a B.S. in Human Resources Management from Arizona State University. Maggie also attended Stanford University where she earned her certificate in Organizational Development.
