CycloFemme Ride Tucson

May 12 is CycloFemme Day! WoCAA is leading the CycloFemme Ride Tucson, which is one of five CycloFemme rides taking place in Arizona!

Ride Information

Starting Location: Flagpole on the West side of Old Main on the University of Arizona campus (see route map below)

Departure Time: 7:30 a.m. – Please be ready to depart at 7:30, so get there early to park, get your bike ready, etc.

Two Ride Options:

1. Short Route: This option will start from the flagpole on the west side of Old Main on the UA campus, head west on University Blvd. to St. Mary’s Rd., and will turn right onto the Santa Cruz bike path (we will use the west side of the path), where it will head north towards the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop, which is located on the bike path.  This ride is 8.4 miles one-way.  Plan on riding at least 45 minutes to get to the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop.

2. Long Route: This option will start from the flagpole on the west side of Old Main on the UA campus, head north on Mountain Ave. to the Rillito Bike Path, head west (left) on the north side of the Rillito bike path to the Santa Cruz bike path where it will head south (left), and will end at the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop, which is located on the bike path.  This ride is 12.4 miles one-way.  Plan on riding at least one hour to get to the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop.

The CycloFemme Tucson ride will end at the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop, and riders are welcome to go home on whatever route they choose.  Feel free to head home at any time, as we do realize it is Mother’s Day.  Beginner riders may want to consider arranging for someone to pick them up from the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop.

A detailed map of the route with the two ride options, start and end locations, restrooms, and more can be found here or below.

Event at Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop:

The Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop will be hosting an event for the riders from the CycloFemme Tucson event!  There will be food, coffee, vendors, and a raffle!  The raffle will take place at approximately 9:15 a.m.  After the raffle, feel free to hang out, check out the Tucson Loop Bicycle Shop, and ride more of The Loop.

Important Ride Information:

This is a fre event, and all level riders are welcome.  Road bikes are recommended, and everyone is responsible for his or her own bicycle and equipment.  Please make sure your equipment is in working order prior to the event.  There will be at least two WoCAA volunteers with each group, as well as Pima County Bike Ambassadors, and please be courteous to these volunteers.  If there is a large turnout, we will break into smaller groups in order not to clog the roads or bike paths.

Riders are responsible for their own safety, and everyone rides at his or her own risk. This is simply a group ride, not a permitted or sanctioned event. Roads will be open to traffic, and The Loop Bike Path will be open to other users. Riders must ride two abreast, obey all traffic laws, and respect other path and road users.  WoCAA is working to build a great community of women cyclists in Tucson and the rest of Arizona and hopes for a great turnout at this event.  Let’s make it a positive experience for all involved by being respectful and careful!

Details can also be found at the Facebook event page.
