A Bike Fit with Missing Link Coaching & Training Systems
A couple of months ago I made a visit to Don Williams (the husband of our team director – Maggie Williams) at Bicycle Haus in Scottsdale, AZ. Don runs Missing Link Coaching and Training Systems, which is one of the great sponsors of the Specialized Designs for Women presented by Bicycle Haus team. In addition to being a coach, Don is also a professional bike fitter, who has been trained by the famous Andy Pruitt himself!
As I have a tendency to fall off my bike on occasion, I have dealt with my fair share of injuries over the years as a cyclist. Various injuries, surgery, etc. tend to alter how you sit on the bike, and given the repetitive nature of cycling, it’s important to ensure that you are positioned correctly on the bike. At the beginning of this season, I was coming back from a long rest to try to recover from some crookedness in my hips. Naturally, I wanted Don to check out my bike fit to make sure I was in the correct position. Bike fitting can help prevent injury and also help you increase power on the bike, so I highly recommend it! I visited Don in the awesome bike fit studio at Bicycle Haus, where he looked reviewed my flexibility, body structure, bike position, cleat adjustment, and more. Don’s fit definitely helped improve my riding this year, and I must say, it was pretty cool to have lasers and cameras pointed at me while I was riding and project it onto the big screen. So for anyone in Arizona, stop by Bicycle Haus sometime to get a bike fit from Don Williams. While you are at it, you can enjoy the fancy bike fit studio at Bike Haus and maybe even get a massage! You will definitely be glad you did it.
Please note: one should wear bright pink Recovery Socks during a bike fit…

Don enters my numbers. I have lasers pointing at me. Sweet.

I second Mel’s recommendation! Don fit me a number of months ago. He’s a super guy who knows his stuff. Having a number of injuries to my back and a damaged L5/S1 nerve was making riding really uncomfortable. In fact, I couldn’t ride for more than 45 minutes when I went to see him. The fit made adjustments for all of my “issues” and I haven’t thought about my position on the bike since. AHHHH, so comfortable on the bike (and faster too)! Here’s a link to a really detailed description of the BG FIT on the Specialized website for those of you who want really specific info. – http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/pdf/BG%20FIT%20Whitepaper.pdf.
Good call, Mary! The Specialized website has some great info on the fit system. Glad to hear it worked for you too.
Agreed! I haven’t changed my fit since Don dialed me in when I lived in AZ.
