Hart Crit

The road racing season has nearly come to an end, but there are a few Colorado races left here I wanted to do. I headed to Denver for the Hart crit this past weekend. It was a really fun wide open course, almost more like a circuit than a crit.
It ended up during our race that it was pretty hot and windy. There were two big teams, which were well-represented. This combination made for a tactical race and a good day for a break. Six of us got away in a break with the two big teams represented. We worked well together. With 4 laps to go I took a risk and went on a solo break. You never know if a break will stick and often they don’t. But with the weather being hot and windy if I put my head down I had a chance. You definitely have to be willing to just suffer through it and hope for the best.
With one lap to go I had a 18 second lead, the lap took about 3 min each time, so…I just kept going, hoping the girls wouldn’t nip me at the line. I managed to hold them off!
My Mom was here visiting and this was the first time my Mom has seen me race a bike, so it was cool I had a good day.
Next is the Steamboat Springs Stage race. I’m looking forward to going, I’ve never been to Steamboat and have heard great things.
Cheers,
M.
