Our first fight…
Well, I suppose it was inevitable. Last night Cerulean and I had our first ‘heated exchange,’ all over one silly little word–brake. You know, the rubber-padded caliber you use to avoid any number of precarious situations one might encounter when traveling on a bicycle. I had no idea that one word could cause such problems.
First, in an earlier post, I apparently (inadvertently) used the word ‘break,’ as in ‘to break one’s heart’, instead of ‘brake‘ when referring to that certain part of Cerulean’s anatomy. Yes, I did spelling bee’s in 2nd grade. Yes, I do know the difference. Yes, it was careless and ultimately hurtful. You’re right, it was thoughtless and insensitive of me. I made a mistake, and I’ll try not to flippantly misuse the English language in such a manner from this point forward. After all, how would I feel if he referred to my hair as ‘hare’?
Second, and perhaps more seriously, he says that I’m becoming too dependent on his brakes. Initially he was attracted to my independence, but lately, my insecurities have been limiting his potential. You see, for the past two weekends, Cerulean and I have participated in some local criteriums. Though he assures me that he is in fact made to corner at high speeds, I’ve had a hard time trusting him. (This really says all there is to say; I do not look very excited about this’) I do all right when it’s just the 2 of us, but as soon as others are tightly packed on all sides of us, I just get nervous. What can I say, I’m an introvert! But not my Cerulean’he desperately wants to show off his catlike reflexes as we nimbly thread our way through corners, riders, potholes, and whatever other opportunities the course may provide such that we (he) can show off his gleaming white handlebar tape (one of his most attractive features!). Apparently alone off the back is not the kind of undivided attention he desires’
Never fear’hope is not lost! Thankfully we’ve got lots of friends who have been through similar situations. We’re going to practice, and things will improve. Cerulean also suggested I spend less time watching The Daily Show and more time understanding the centripetal force and rotational motion. We’ll see’ Nevertheless, we’re committed to one another. Our love is strong; together we can!
