Copper Valley Road Race Report

The Copper Valley Road Race proved more water than copper this year. At the start of the 60-mile road race, the rain began steadily falling, then steadily falling harder, then well, stayed a deluge the entire time.

With less than 15 people in the women’s Cat 1, 2, 3 fields, Judy, Sandy, and I braved the wet weather and took to the hills of Globe, AZ. Sandy, Megan French (of Tribe), and I formed an early break and kept the field away until the final climb, a monstrous seven mile slugfest. I was able to keep a steady pace and break away for the win, while Sandy won the Cat 3′s, and Judy finished 4th in the 1, 2′s.

The weather was a tough opponent, one that we don’t see too often in Southern, AZ, so chalk one up for the Specialized D4W/ Bicycle Haus girls of Globe.
