TBC Team Photo

The Tucson Bicycle Classic concluded two weeks ago, and we’ve read some great reports from Marilyn and Carrie. Check out the photo of the team (well, most of the team below) after the awards ceremony. In the 1/2 race, we had 3 riders in the top 10, and in the 3 and 4 races, our team was well represented by Judy and Carrie.

Stage 1 of TBC is a short, 3 mile time trial on the west side of Gate’s Pass in Tucson, Arizona. Stage 2 is a 60 mile road race near Sahuarita, AZ. The road race consists of three, 20 mile loops with some good, steep climbing. Stage 3 is a 40 mile circuit race on the east side of Gate’s Pass. The circuit race consists of seven loops of approximately 5.5 miles.

The team had a great showing at TBC. We finished overall in GC with 3 riders in the top ten. Heather at 4th, Kathryn tied for 7th, and Angi in 10th. Spring was right behind Angi in 11th, I was floating around back there in 17th, and Marilyn finished as the most fabulous lantern rouge due to breaking her derailleur hanger in the road race and finishing with a technical and a time penalty. Maggie threw down some amazing, brutal attacks in the last day at the circuit race for us as well.

In the CAT 3’s, Judy did a great job finishing 5th overall, and in the CAT 4’s, Carrie did awesome finishing 7th in GC. Both of them learned to keep their noses out of the wind. :-)

This weekend, we have Heather, Kathryn, and Marilyn heading to the San Dimas Stage Race in California. Heidi, Spring, Kim, Mary, Judy, Jen, Maggie, and myself are headed to the toughest one-day race in AZ: the Superior road race.

The last week of March will be very exciting for the team. We have been accepted into the Redlands Cycling Classic in California. Redlands is one of the premier stage races on the NRC Calendar, and the who’s who of women’s cycling will be there. This will be a great opportunity for our team to show off some serious skills. Myself, Heather, Marilyn, Maggie, and Kathryn will be representing the team at Redlands this year. Watch for us March 26-29 in the results! I hope I have gained some more post-knee surgery fitness than I had at TBC!

Check out the next team photo. Can you find the difference from the first one?
