Back in the Saddle

I didn’t recover physically from pregnancy for almost a year and a half. It didn’t help that my son was colicky for months and then just plain cranky for a few more. He was up every 2-3 hours for the first year.I tried to race and found it was impossible with no time, no energy, and nearly20 lbs of extra weight to carry around. I seriously thought I was going to die!

I’m not telling you any of this to complain and I hope I don’t sound negative because I am actually grateful that things were the way they were – I’m a better person for it. A little bit of background just might help you understandabit about my life and where I’ve been over the last two years. Having racing back in my life has really helped me to realize how important exercise is for my overall well being.Everyone around mebenefits when I have an outlet for my stress! :)

This year has been so different! I have a great team and I’ve really enjoyed racing with them. Racing is different now with other things in life to balance, but I am enjoying it more now than I ever have. My priorities are different, I don’t train as much as I would like, but I enjoy the time I get to ride and race.Owen joins me on a lot of my rides (I attribute the weight of his trailer to be a large part of getting my strength back) and it’s a great way to get both of us out.I have other obligations like volunteer work, Owen’s activities, and a husband to fit in as well. It makes me appreciate it that much more when I can fit it in.

It’s all good, very good. This time last year, I would never have guessed things would be so much better…I’m glad I didn’t give up hope.
